This is the second book in a three book series.
Fifty years on from the events at the end of the first book, the terraforming program is beginning to show results. Mars is warmer, the atmosphere thicker.
Most of the first 100 are dead, and the failed revolution has left the planet firmly in the control of Earths UNTA forces. Though officially answering to the UN, their real masters are the transnational corporations.
The surviving members of the first 100 and their children are forced to hide in secret bases, or assume false identities to move undetected through the Martian population.
But some on Earth also believe in Martian independence and begin organising the fragmented remnants of the resistance into a unified group. When nature exerts its ultimate power on Earth the stage is set for a second revolution.
For people who are fans of the idea of terraforming Mars this series is a must read. Kim Stanley Robinson describes in detail the transitions the planet goes through as the story develops.
