Having escaped from the year 802,701 back to 1891, the time traveler recounts his adventure to his skeptical friends. Their disbelief combined with his own remorse over the loss of the Eloi woman Weena prompts him to return to the future.
But the further he travels into the future, the clearer it becomes that something is wrong. Events are not playing out as they did in his first journey. He himself has changed the future in ways he could never have imagined.
As he attempts to make some sense of what has happened, he and his most unlikely companion are cast further and further through time until home and the world he new seem hopelessly lost.
This book is well worthy of being the sequel to the classic original.
